DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks)

The concept of DePIN takes this even further by crowdsourcing actual hardware deployment. Instead of a tech giant spending billions to build data systems, DePIN protocols incentivize individuals and independent operators to provide computing power (CPU/GPU computing), storage, and bandwidth in exchange for tokens.

This creates a highly redundant, global cloud infrastructure where no single entity owns the physical hardware, scaling dynamically based on community participation.

The Structural Nuance:

Web3 doesn’t literally eliminate the physical existence of servers or data storage—data still has to live on hardware somewhere. Instead, it eliminates the monopoly on them. It turns monolithic, corporate-owned data silos into a liquid marketplace of distributed, global computing resources.
